CFP Rankings Chart

November 18

The biggest question going into this week’s rankings is where Oklahoma and Alabama would land following the Sooners’ win in Tuscaloosa on Saturday.

The answer is that Oklahoma is eighth while the Crimson Tide is tenth. Notre Dame is sandwiched in between. What does this mean for the long term? Nothing much, really. Alabama still has a realistic chance to play for the SEC title. Oklahoma has been eliminated. 11-2 SEC champion Alabama would very likely finish ahead of 10-2 Oklahoma. The Sooners still have an excellent chance at a CFP berth if they can beat 22 Missouri and LSU at home.

Texas fell seven spots to 17 after the Longhorns’ loss at 4 Georgia. The third loss is one too many. It seems unlikely that even beating 3 Texas A&M would vault the Longhorns into the top 10 and a CFP berth.

Near the bottom of the CFP rankings this week, the American Conference was represented for the second straight week. Tulane was ranked 24th and is the only Group of Five team in the rankings, so the Green Wave is the leader for now for an automatic bid in the eyes of the committee. Of course, Tulane still has to win the league. Simply winning this week is tough enough. The first two of the committee’s designated Group of Five leaders lost their next game. The Green Wave visits Temple on Saturday.

Among the four 1-loss teams left in the American, only two of the possible six games were played among those teams. North Texas beat Navy 31-17 back on Nov. 1, while Tulane defeated East Carolina 26-19 on Oct 9.

If there is a multiple team tie at the end, the championship game participants will likely be decided by computer rankings.

"vs. T25" is record vs. last week's top 25, not the current one. That is how the committee defines it.
