The Cougars took a beating from Texas Tech on Saturday and another one from the committee on Tuesday, falling five spots to 12th.
That would put BYU out of a playoff based on these rankings. Only the top ten would get in because there are only three conference leaders in that group and the top five get byes.
That means 16th ranked Georgia Tech and No. 24 South Florida would qualify as the 11th and 12th seeds.
No. 15 Miami moved up three spots in the rankings, passing conference mates Virginia and Louisville, which lost this week, and the Yellow Jackets, which were idle.
The Hurricanes are the highest ranked team from the ACC this week, but currently sit seventh in the conference standings. This is the first time a team that was seventh in the conference standings was the highest ranked team from its conference in the CFP rankings for that week. It’s been a weird year.
South Florida's appearance in the rankings is the first for a Group of Five team this season.
